Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Aesthetics)
Age progression, genetic factors, smoking, insomnia, fatigue, stress, etc. in the eyelid and surrounding structures. The procedures performed to correct the changes due to factors are evaluated in eyelid aesthetics. Sagging of the skin, herniation of fat bags, downward inclination of the lower lid, droopy eyebrows, droopy eyelids are the problems that occur due to these reasons. To correct these problems, lower upper eyelid aesthetics is applied.
In these procedures, excess skin and fat bags are removed. If there are sunken and hollow areas around the eyes, fat packs can be placed in these areas. In individuals with loose lower lid structure, lower lid tightening is performed. If there is a droopy eyelid, ptosis surgery can be applied, and if there is a droopy eyebrow, brow lift can also be applied. In other words, the procedures to be performed are determined according to the needs of the patient, without disturbing the natural appearance.
- The area around the eyes may lose its flexibility due to genetic factors, environmental factors, aging, stress, smoking….
- There may be skin sagging, fat bags, subcutaneous fat deposits on the upper and lower lids.
- Together, low eyelid and drooping eyebrows can be seen.
- The treatment can be applied surgically.
- Before the treatment, the patient's face is evaluated as a whole. Only sagging skin can be removed, if there are fat bags, it can be removed, or especially in patients with a prominent tear trough on the lower lid, the tear trough is filled with fat packs and a smoother image is obtained on the lower lid.
- In the upper lid, the incision is made from the upper lid crease, the incisions on the lower lid are made either by the conjunctival tract or at the level of the ciliated edge.
Is There an Age Limit for Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Aesthetics)?
There is no age limit in eyelid aesthetics. Because, depending on genetic factors, some patients may have excess skin on their eyelids even in their 20s or have fat hernias and need aesthetics.
Of course, we do not recommend the application of aesthetic procedures at an early age. With the advancing age, the excess skin or the formation of bags and their eyelid treatment are more intense.
It varies according to the patient. But in general, it would be more appropriate to apply it towards advanced ages.
How Long Does Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Aesthetic) Recovery Take?
After eyelid aesthetics, there is a recovery period of about 10 days. This is the process until the stitches are removed. In this process, swelling and bruising develop.
For the first two days, this can be quite challenging for the patient. There is no serious pain.
In the later process, these swellings and bruises begin to descend.
Usually, by the end of the first week, it is almost gone. eyelid swelling and bruises are removed on the 10th day, and the process is completed in this way.
Is Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Aesthetics) Surgery Permanent?
Eyelid aesthetic surgery can actually be determined according to the wear process of the person. If the skin has a very flexible structure, if the person smokes, if there are genetic factors, the person may need eyelid aesthetics again over time.
In general, if the eyelid is taken to the skin sufficiently, neither the lid is left open nor the skin is taken properly so that some skin remains, most of the time this process is quite long for the patient.
The patient will not need it in a period of at least 10 years.
Who Is Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Aesthetics) Performed?
Eyelid aesthetic can vary according to the person's demand. This can be applied in the presence of excess skin, fat herniation or situations that make the patient look tired.
Sometimes, according to the patient's request, although some patients have a very minimal eyelid excess, the patient may be uncomfortable with this and may request that it be removed.
It can be applied in this case. In general, if excess skin fat bags are very prominent and there are situations that cause a tired expression in the patient, we apply eyelid operations.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Aesthetics) Surgery
Eyelid aesthetic surgery is an operation performed on the eyelid, especially when there is excess skin.
This means that over time, the eyelid skin may stretch more than it does, either due to genetic factors or during the wear process.
In this case, the pressure on the ciliated edge can go down to the lashed edge and can make heaviness on the eyelid.
In this case, surgical removal of the skin, especially on the upper eyelid, can provide relief from this aspect.
Upper eyelid aesthetics is performed only on the upper lid and can be applied on the lower lid as well. Applications can be made by determining the needs of the patient.
In the applications on the upper lid, not only the skin is removed, but if there are fat herniations, fat hernias can be removed or if there are pits, the existing fat can be placed in these pits.
Fat hernias can be removed in the same way on the lower eyelid and if there are pits, they can be placed in the hollow areas. These are roughly the applications made on the upper eyelid.
What is the Purpose of Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Aesthetics)?
Eyelid aesthetic application, a treatment method is determined especially according to the needs of the patient.
If there is excess skin, it is removed, but it should never be removed as much as the patient's eyelid remains open.
If there is excess oil on the eyelid, excess oil is removed, and if there are pits, these oils are filled. In other words, neither too much oil nor too much skin is recommended.
According to the needs, surgical planning should be done in a way that will not damage the eye tissues.
Can Lower Eyelid Aesthetics And Upper Eyelid Aesthetics Be Done At The Same Time?
In eyelid aesthetic surgeries, upper eyelid and lower eyelid aesthetics can be applied separately or in the same session.
This can be determined according to the patient's needs. However, when upper eyelid aesthetics and lower eyelid aesthetics are together, the patient's operation time is prolonged and the healing process is prolonged.
For the patient, this can be a bit tiring.
What are the Causes of Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Aesthetics)?
In eyelid aesthetics, especially if there are excess skin and fat bags, they are removed. The most important reasons are the genetic predisposition of the patient.
If there is a family situation, the need for aesthetics may arise even at an early age.
Apart from this, other reasons such as insomnia, fatigue, eating habits may create the need for eyelid aesthetics.
Which Type of Anesthesia is Applied in Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Aesthetics)?
It is appropriate to apply anesthesia in eyelid aesthetics, especially with local anesthesia in the cases we apply.
However, it will be easier to plan such an operation in addition to calming the patient by giving some sedation in patients who have upper and lower lid aesthetics performed together.
Because two operations are performed, the duration of the operation will be longer and the patient may be stressed.
Therefore, it will be healthier to give sedation and relax the patient, and then apply eyelid surgery together with sedation.
When can make-up be applied after blepharoplasty (eyelid aesthetics) in women?
After the eyelid aesthetic is applied, the sutures are generally removed around the 10th day.
Since the eyelid healing is completed in the process after the stitches are removed, the next process is related to the treatments to remove the scars.
After this process, the patient can apply his make-up whenever he wants.
